THE UNITED NATIONS AND GLOBAL INITIATIVES OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN: COOPERATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
On September 26, 2025, the International Scientific Forum “United Nations and Global Initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan: Cooperation for Sustainable Development” was held at the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan. The event was organized at the initiative of the Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Green Economy.
This high-level event, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, was held in the context of the address by the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Its main objective was to strengthen partnerships and dialogue in advancing the global initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Representatives of the highest state authorities, parliament, ministries and agencies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, research centers, and public associations took part in the forum and delivered statements.
The forum was opened with welcoming speech by the Rector of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Asrorzoda Ubaydullo Sattor. In his address, Ubaydullo Asrorzoda proudly referred to the speech of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, noting that Tajikistan maintains a firm and constructive position in addressing global challenges, including climate change, water diplomacy, cybersecurity, and the strengthening of international law.
In particular, the proposals of the Leader of the Nation were highlighted, including the proclamation of the International Year of Legal Awareness, the establishment of a Regional Center for Artificial Intelligence in Dushanbe, as well as the call for strengthening water diplomacy as initiatives of global significance and high scientific value.
The forum also featured welcoming remarks by: Shukurzoda Isfandiyor Shukur – First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan; Vera Valeryevna Khutorskaya – Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan; Members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan – Shamsherzoda Komiljon Chila, Ahmadzoda Dilnoza Davronali, and Nabotzoda Siyovush Kholmurod; Amriyo Bobozoda – Deputy Head of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan; Stefan Hanisch – Head of the Department of Economic and Environmental Affairs at the OSCE Office; Rodora B. Concepcion – Head of the Operations Sector of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan; Shalva Kirtadze – Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi (Georgia); Anvarzoda Sunatullo – Head of the Department for Innovation Development and Support for the Commercialization of Scientific and Technical Results at the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan; Zulfiya Mahmanabievna Qurbonova – Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, Deputy Director of the Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Green Economy of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan and Parvin Nozimovich Jabborov – Representative of the Green Economy Financing Fund (GEFF) project.
The forum was held in an atmosphere of high scientific engagement. During the discussions, it was emphasized that Tajikistan is recognized on the international stage as an initiator country and a global leader in the fields of water resources, climate, and green diplomacy.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants were introduced to the activities of the Center for Green Diplomacy at the University, as well as presented with the newly published books “The Leader of the Nation and the Formation of Green Diplomacy of the Republic of Tajikistan” and “Global Initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan”.
