ORGANIZATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL HACKATHON “GREEN LEADERS”

From 26 to 28 November 2025, in the city of Guliston, Sughd Region, an educational youth environmental hackathon entitled “GREEN LEADERS” was held at the initiative of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, in partnership with the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Green Economy of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, and the initiative group “Ecoproactive.”

Within the framework of the eco-hackathon, participants completed educational modules and then presented their creative and practice-oriented projects devoted to environmental protection, green innovation, sustainable management of natural resources, and new environmental initiatives.

The Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Green Economy of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan served as the scientific and expert partner of the eco-hackathon. The Deputy Directors of the Institute – Doctor of Political Science, Professor Zulfiya Kurbonzoda, and Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor Gulshan Bodurova – took an active part in its work.

Zulfiya Kurbonzoda delivered a lecture on the topic “Green Diplomacy as a New Mechanism of International Cooperation.” Gulshan Bodurova presented an analytical review on issues of the legal framework for the green economy and environmental security. In addition, as members of the jury, the Deputy Directors evaluated the projects presented by the participants. Their involvement added further academic and professional significance to the hackathon and provided methodological support and expert recommendations for the participants.

At the closing ceremony, all participants were awarded certificates and commemorative gifts. The 2025 educational eco-hackathon in Guliston helped to shape environmental thinking, develop innovative skills among young people, increase ecological responsibility, and create a new platform for scientific cooperation between government bodies, research institutions, and international organizations.

The participation of the Research Institute for Sustainable Development and Green Economy in the eco-hackathon strengthens its role as a leading research center and a reliable international partner in the implementation of state policy in the field of the green economy.
