
NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
At this theme, a roundtable discussion dedicated to World environment day, celebrated annually on 5 of June was held at the International University of tourism and entrepreneurship of Tajikistan.
The event was organized at the initiative of the Research Institute for sustainable development and green economy of the International University of tourism and entrepreneurship of Tajikistan in collaboration with the Aarhus center of the Committee for environmental protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Its purpose was to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with natural resource management and environmental protection in the face of growing climate risks.
Representatives of government ministries and agencies, research institutions, businesses, civil society, faculty, and students participated in the roundtable.
The roundtable began with a speech by the Institute’s director, doctor of economics, professor Farhod Sharofzoda who noted that environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources are important areas of public policy. In this regard, Tajikistan’s declaration of 2025 as the International year of glaciers at the initiative of the UN, demonstrates the country’s significant contribution to addressing environmental issues at the global level.
During the event, leading specialists and experts, including representatives of the Committee for environmental protection, the Academy of sciences, private companies and scientific institutions presented reports on the development of a green economy, the implementation of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies, food security in the face of climate change, the efficient use of water and land resources, the protection of biodiversity, and other important environmental aspects.
During active discussions, participants made useful suggestions and recommendations for strengthening cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and civil society to improve the environment and expand the use of environmentally friendly technologies.
At the end of the event, the speakers and active university volunteers were awarded certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts.
