GREEN RECOGNITION FROM TAIWAN: IUTET’S PARTICIPATION IN THE GLOBAL “GREEN UNIVERSITIES” RANKING
The leadership, academic staff, employees, and students of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, in order to implement the instructions and directives of the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, on transforming the country into a “green” nation and presenting it more actively and purposefully on the global stage, are continuously making dedicated efforts.
In this context, on December 5, 2025, a formal ceremony announcing the results of the global “Green Universities” ranking – the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025 – was held at National Chi Nan University in Taiwan. The event brought together leading universities from around the world that implement sustainable development policies and green management.
In 2025, 1,845 universities from 105 countries participated in this ranking. Notably, the Republic of Tajikistan was included in this global assessment for the first time, and two institutions – the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan and the Tajik National University – represented the country at the international level.
The International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan achieved a strong overall result, earning 5,885 points, securing a notable position among the world’s universities and taking first place in the national ranking.
In addition, the University showed high performance in two specific UI GreenMetric sub-rankings: among universities with a medium campus population (Medium Campus Population) and among universities with a medium campus area (Medium Campus Area).
Assessment in the UI GreenMetric is conducted based on six main criteria. IUTET received a total of 5,885 points, including: Infrastructure and campus environment – 925 points; Energy and climate – 1,235 points; Water efficiency – 650 points; Waste management – 512.5 points; Sustainable transportation – 1,200 points; and Sustainability-related science, education, and research – 1,362.5 points.
It should be noted that ensuring sustainable development is one of the strategic priorities of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan. The University will continue its efforts to expand green infrastructure, use energy-efficient solutions, improve water-use efficiency, reduce and recycle waste, raise environmental awareness, and expand innovative research, in order to make a meaningful contribution to improving the green economy and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
