Qurbonzoda Zulfiya Mahmadnabi is a Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, and a recognized expert in the fields of international relations, green diplomacy, and sustainable development. Since 2011, she has been actively engaged in the field of science, making a significant contribution to the development of humanitarian and socio-environmental disciplines both in the Republic of Tajikistan and beyond its borders.

Professor Zulfiya Qurbonzoda’s scientific interests cover a wide range of pressing issues, including the formation and development of the institution of green diplomacy in the context of states’ foreign policy strategies; international cooperation in the field of environmental security, climate change mitigation, and transboundary water management; the promotion of global and regional initiatives in sustainable development and the green economy; and the study of best international practices in implementing the green agenda and establishing institutions of sustainable governance.

Professor Zulfiya Qurbonzoda is a member of several specialized dissertation councils in political science and international relations. She actively contributes to the development of scientific schools and the training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel. Under her academic supervision, several PhD dissertations in the fields of diplomacy, foreign policy, and security have been successfully defended.

Professor Qurbonzoda’s scientific and publishing activity includes 15 monographs, 9 textbooks, and more than 150 scientific articles published in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as in specialized collections on international relations, political science, conflict studies, environmental policy, and higher education reform.

As the First Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Science and Innovation, Professor Zulfiya Mahmadnabi Qurbonzoda provides strategic leadership for the scientific and analytical activities of the Institute. Her responsibilities include:

  • planning and coordinating the Institute’s priority scientific and research areas in accordance with national strategies and the global sustainable development agenda;
  • developing and implementing the innovation and educational agenda within the framework of the “green economy” concept, including the introduction of modern scientific approaches, interdisciplinary research, and ecological innovations;
  • providing scientific and methodological support for master’s and PhD programs, ensuring the quality of academic training and the compliance of educational programs with international standards;
  • leading projects and scientific initiatives in key areas such as green diplomacy, climate resilience, transboundary cooperation, and environmental security;
  • representing the Institute at international forums, conferences, and expert platforms, and participating in interagency and intergovernmental scientific dialogues;
  • participating in the development of scientific and personnel policy, fostering scientific schools, supporting young researchers, and promoting academic mobility.

The professional competence, high scientific authority and extensive international connections of Professor Zulfiya Mahmadnabi Qurbonzoda contribute to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Institute and enhancing its role as a leading scientific and expert center in the fields of sustainable development, green economy and environmental diplomacy.

For her significant contribution to the development of science and education in the Republic of Tajikistan, Zulfiya Qurbonzoda was awarded the honorary title “Excellence in Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan” (2021).
