
CURRENT ISSUES OF TRANSITION TO A GREEN ECONOMY IN CENTRAL ASIA
On 17th of February 2026, the Research Institute for sustainable development and green economy of the International University of tourism and entrepreneurship of Tajikistan held an international scientific-practical conference at the National library of Tajikistan. The conference was attended by representatives of government agencies, scientific and educational institutions, scientists and experts of the field.
The conference began with an opening speech by the Institute’s director, doctor of economics, professor Farhod Sharofzoda. During the speech he emphasized that, in light of the policies of the Leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, excellency Emomali Rahmon the transition to a green economy and the efficient use of natural resources is of strategic importance in world. Nowadays, the world is undergoing profound economic and environmental transformation, climate change, depletion of natural resources energy security challenges are driving the global community toward sustainable development and a green economy. In this context, the conference was viewed as an important platform for scientific dialogue and the development of practical proposals.
The plenary session featured scientific articles presented by Loik Safarovich Kassobov – candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Tajik technical university named after academic M.S. Osimi, Yavmutov Dilshod Shoimardonkulovich – doctor of economics, professor at Bukhoro state university (Uzbekistan), Andrei Molochko – senior expert on energy economics within the framework of the European Union technical assistance project (Belarus), Sergey Sergeevich Zhilsov – doctor of political science, professor of the Patrice Lumumba peoples’ friendship University of Russia (Russian), Annette Leiteritz – head of the Program famine relief in the Republic of Tajikistan (Germany), Adam Saud – professor, dean of the faculty of humanities and social sciences of the Bahria university (Pakistan), Hofiz Navruzshoev – candidate of technical sciences, representative of the Institute for the study of mountain societies at the University of Central Asia and Sobit Orienbassar – representative of the Institute for comparative regional integration studies of the United Nations University (UNU-CRIS) (Belgium).
During scientific discussion section, representatives of government agencies, scientists and industry experts from the National academy of sciences of Tajikistan, the Slavic university of Tajikistan and Russia, public associations and departments of the International university of tourism and entrepreneurship of Tajikistan expressed their views and opinions on the transition to a green economy in the Central Asian region.
