DISCUSSION ON GREEN ECONOMY DEVELOPMENT AND THE PROTECTION OF NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS
On June 4, 2026, by the initiative of the Research Institute of Sustainable Development and Green Economy of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, a roundtable discussion entitled “Green Economy and the Protection of Natural Ecosystems: Current Trends, Challenges, and Solutions” was held at the university to mark World Environment Day.
The event was opened by Professor Farhod Sharofzoda, Director of the Institute and Doctor of Economic Sciences. In his speech, he emphasized that environmental protection, climate change adaptation, the rational use of natural resources, and the development of a green economy are among the most important priorities for achieving sustainable development in today’s world.
The main session featured scientific presentations by Alikhon Ahmadovich Karimov, Candidate of Geological Sciences and Director of the State Unitary Enterprise “Tabiat” under the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan; Murodjon Ergashev, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences and scientific researcher at the Soil Reclamation Department of the Institute of Soil Science of the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Mahmad Safarov, scientific researcher at the Institute for the Study of Glaciers and the Cryosphere of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan; Ramazon Izatullozoda, scientific researcher in the Department of Environmental Research and Natural Resource Management of the Research Institute of Sustainable Development and Green Economy; and Emomali Hukumatov, Volunteer of the Research Institute of Sustainable Development and Green Economy.
During the discussion session, participants exchanged views on climate change, the protection of natural ecosystems, the efficient use of natural resources, the development of green technologies, and ways to strengthen the role of young people in addressing environmental challenges.
The roundtable was recognized as an important scientific platform for discussing issues related to green economy development and environmental protection. Participants emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among research institutions, government agencies, international organizations, and civil society in order to promote sustainable development and protect natural ecosystems. They also presented practical recommendations for improving environmental policy and implementing innovative green technologies.
