Department of International Relations and Green Diplomacy

Mission and Strategic Vision

The Department of International Relations and Green Diplomacy was established to foster integrative partnerships in the fields of sustainable development, climate security, and environmental diplomacy. We aim to create an intellectual and expert-driven environment where science, education, and international cooperation form the foundation for advancing the green agenda at both national and global levels.

The department serves as a scientific and analytical platform that brings together experts in international relations, ecology, sustainable development, international law, and diplomacy, as well as young researchers and students engaged in promoting contemporary global initiatives.

Key Areas of Activity:

  • conducting fundamental and applied research in the fields of international environmental processes, green diplomacy, and climate policy;
  • developing scientifically grounded recommendations for integrating environmental issues into the foreign policy of Tajikistan;
  • monitoring and analyzing international initiatives, agreements, and treaties in the areas of sustainable development and environmental protection;
  • expanding academic and scientific cooperation with leading universities, research institutions, and international organizations;
  • organizing international and national scientific events such as conferences, forums, round tables, and green diplomacy schools;
  • preparing and supporting international projects focused on sustainable development, climate adaptation, and environmental education;
  • integrating environmental components into the university’s educational and research programs.

Priority Research Topics and Projects:

  • Tajikistan’s participation in global environmental initiatives (Paris Agreement, 2030 Agenda, SDGs, etc.);
  • Green diplomacy as a tool for sustainable development;
  • International environmental law and multilateral agreements;
  • Foreign policy aspects of climate change;
  • The role of Central Asia in the global environmental agenda;
  • International water cooperation and transboundary management of natural resources.

International Cooperation:

The Department actively fosters partnerships with:

  • Leading international universities and research institutions;
  • United Nations agencies, including UNDP;
  • Regional initiatives focused on climate and sustainable development;
  • Embassies and representative offices of international organizations in Tajikistan.

We are committed to building “green bridges” between the academic community, government agencies, international institutions, and civil society in order to collectively promote the values and principles of sustainable development.

Our Goals:

  • Developing a new generation of experts and diplomats in the field of sustainable development;
  • Strengthening Tajikistan’s scientific and practical contribution to shaping international environmental policy;
  • Establishing a strong academic school on international environmental relations within the university;
  • Promoting the “Green University” concept through international expertise and best practices.
